Recently we have added a new product to our list of items that we have to I.D. people for. Cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol, lighter, lottery tickets, meet your new friend Pseudoephedrine.
For Those of you that don't know what Pseudoephedrine is, all you have to do is look in your medicine cabinet for cold remedies like Sudafed, Tylenol cold, Robitussin, Benadryl allergy and cold tablets.
This all started because of a illegal drug called Crystal Meth or Methamphetamine. The suppliers when out of there supply of Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine would turn to something called smurfing. They send multiple people into a store and by cold remedies with Pseudoepherine in them and use them to make Crystal Meth. Well I guess it has finally caught up to the people making these dangerous drugs, because now the U.S. government has enacted The Combat Meth Act. This law states that a person can only purchase 3.6 grams of a product with Pseudoephedrine in it per day, and 9 grams per month. I'm sure they'll find a way around this law, (probably will increase smurfing and smurfs) but I bet it's still a nuisance.
I think it will be harder on people in the retail business. Now we have to proof people, as if our lives depend on it, because they do. If we "knowingly" sell Pseudoephedrine items over the limit we can be fined up to $25,000 dollars and imprisoned up to a year. Not to mention the fact that we will lose our jobs. I work at a service desk, so if I ever get a customer with (oh let's say) Sudafed, I will just send them back to the registers.

The stupid thing is that most of the meth that's sold here is being smuggled in from Mexico, so once again the gummint makes everyone's life miserable (I have to go to the effing drug store counter to get Children's sudafed, and if they're closed and I've got a sick kid, I'm SCREWED).
LOL It has been like there here in the meth capital for over a year. LOL They will just use something else. They always do. It won't stop them. One day I'll tell you my story how it is all BS and how the government is just tryin to ACT like they want it to stop......
They did that here for awhile. Then they put it back on the shelf.
yeah and I want to smack the idiots who say.. make it a prescription I don't mind. I say I DO!!! I do not want to go to the doctor and pay a copay for some over the counter crap cuz some idiot wants to make meth.
My grandmother's old house (now sold) was just busted in the one of the largest meth raids in Nebraska history (25-30 arrests). Anyways, that's beside the point. What do you think about making all drugs legal, thus letting them run their course (ultimately death or a life-sentence in prison) instead of creating regulations and classifications for what constitutes what a drug actually is? For me, briefly, this would seem to alleviate social necessity for black markets and the allure of illegal activity.

I can't see in any way in any foreseeable future, where drugs like Meth would be legalized. Personally I think if the government had control over it and they could legally tax it, these addictive drugs would be legal. There is no way this going to happen though, because of public opinion. It's funny though, people say one thing on the outside, but on the inside it could be a different opinion. My take on this all is that, I wouldn’t want illegal drugs on the market. I had a couple of family members whose lives were turned upside down. One lost there home and almost lost there job. Fortunately both fought there addiction and are doing well. I don't think anything should be legal if it means loss of life, and that includes weapons too. But that’s just my opinion, and I am sure there are a lot of people out there, that glad that my opinion can't even scratch the surface of so many issues that we have to deal with today.
My husband has to flag any person that buys more than two containers of starter fluid in his store for just that very reason. It's sad, but true. Company policy.

They made that into law in Tennessee a few years ago and I am glad that they did. Unlike Sneaks, most of the meth in Tennessee is being made here in residential area, usually with children in the home. One way that they keep catching this labs is when the kid suffers horrible burns or exposure from the chemicals used in making it. Great, huh?
